November is smoking/vaping/tobacco cessation month

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health recently launched Get Outraged!, a public information campaign to educate parents of middle- and high school-aged youth about the dangers of vaping (makesmokinghistory.org/dangers-of-vaping/outrage). The goal of the campaign is to provide parents and other caring adults the facts about vaping and vape products, industry tactics used to entice youth use, and the real risk of nicotine addiction.

Ashland’s Decisions at Every Turn (DAET) encourages parents and caregivers to use the available resources to assist with family conversations about the risks of teen vaping and to connect tweens/teens who are ready to quit.

While most Ashland students do not vape, DAET says it is important to use evidence-based strategies to prevent first use, reduce current use, and provide support and resources to youth who want to quit. Information campaigns such as Get Outraged! provide opportunities for everyone to be involved in helping to mitigate this public health epidemic. DAET hopes that Get Outraged! will jump-start important discussions and action steps that can help protect our kids and teens.

DAET’s mission is to work with the community to promote healthy decision-making and positive behavioral health and to reduce and prevent youth alcohol and other drug use through evidence-based education and prevention strategies.
